Fu sits in Kun palace: Kun above, Zhen below. Zhen is wood and thunder; Kun is earth. Zhen also meets a moving line — an earthquake omen.
Line 3 Chen Earth aligns with the Year-Stem. The Year-Stem should be still rather than moving; moving brings disaster of a quake. Chen belongs to the dragon, the dragon is a great Snake; the dragon moving in Kun and meeting Zhen is the earthquake image.
Direction: southwest of Xi'an (Kun is southwest). Magnitude: roughly 8 (Kun's number). Timing: Chen Earth moves and clashes the day-stem Xu Earth; Xu is the month-stem of the 9th lunar month. Predicted dates: 28th–29th of the 9th lunar month.
Actual outcome
On 7–8 November 1988 (the 28th–29th of the 9th lunar month) Yunnan province had a magnitude-7+ earthquake — exactly matching the predicted date and direction.
