Earth-Vein Restoration Rite (Bồi Hoàn Địa Mạch)
When the Long Mạch (dragon vein) has been unintentionally disturbed by improper digging or building
Meaning
Asking the forgiveness of the Bodhisattva Kṣitigarbha (Địa Tạng Vương) and the deities when the head of household has unintentionally dug into and broken the dragon vein, causing peril. The rite mends the vital energy and restores the energetic vein of the land, bringing peace.
Offering preparation
- Tam Giang Thủy (water from three rivers) and Ngũ Linh Thổ (five sacred earths), kneaded into the form of the Sacred Tortoise (Thần Quy).
- Five-color silk thread, vermillion (Chu Sa) for writing the character ÁN LAM.
- 5 kinds of beans, 5 kinds of flowers, 5 colored flags, sand from a three-river junction.
- Pour Tam Giang Thủy into the hole dug at the center of the Five-Element array, place the Sacred Tortoise, then fill with sand mixed with the 5 kinds of beans.

With sincere heart we prepare incense, flowers, and offerings, asking to restore the earth-vein. Because previously, with mind clouded and spirit confused, ........(reason), we have harmed the LONG MẠCH, offended the DRAGON-AUTHORITY, and affected the Original Energy of this land. Now, wishing for the wind and earth to be at peace, that our family may know peace and that calamity be dispelled, we now BY THE GREAT AUTHORITY OF THE GREAT BODHISATTVA, drawing on the virtue of the venerable deities, respectfully request the unfolding of divine power to restore the flow of dragon-energy.
We humbly ask the venerable deities to bear witness to our sincerity, descend to this ritual ground, and partake of the offerings. The faithful sincerely offers to the Lord of the Nether World Bodhisattva Kṣitigarbha, the Bodhisattva Kiên Lao Earth Deity, the Five-Direction and Five-Emperor and Sovereign Earth deities, the Mountain-Holy Emperor, the Earth Deity of this Direction, the Earth Court venerable deities, the Twenty-Eight Mansions Star Deities, the Twenty-Four Long Mạch deity-officials, the Twenty-Four Earth-Vein deity-officials, the Twenty-Four Mountain-Direction Earth-Vein Long Thần, the Azure Dragon and White Tiger venerable deities, the Earth Bá-Hầu-Mạnh-Trọng-Quý deity-officials, the Earth Mother-Father-Son-Grandson-General-Family deity-officials, the Earth of Cấn and Khôn, the Five-Direction Earth-Kỳ and Eight-Trigram venerable deities, the Reigning Hành Khiển Grand Duke (Thái Tuế) of supreme virtue, the local Tutelary Deities and Great Sovereigns, together with all the GREAT AUSPICIOUS STARS now seated and watching over this place.
We humbly ask the venerable deities to have compassion on the faithful, accept this petition, descend before the altar, and bless the wind and soil to be fertile, the energy-vein to flourish, the wealth-energy to grow, the people to enjoy peace, and every wish to be fulfilled.
