Home-Selling Rite

Performing the rite to sell a home (9–11 a.m. or 9–11 p.m. in the yard)

Meaning

Reporting to the local spirit-deities about the change of ownership. Asking the deities to bless the transaction so it is not obstructed, that selling and buying flow well, and that the seller receives fortune.

Offering preparation

- 1 chicken, sticky rice, 5 red roses, five-fruit tray, betel and areca, red oản cakes, rice, salt, wine, tea.
- Set of red paper robes for the Spirit Mandarin, white sword.

Content

Namo Amitābha Buddha (3 times). I bow to the nine directions of Heaven, the ten directions of Buddhas. I bow to the Father King, the Jade Emperor. I bow to the Five Wang Hành Khiển Heaven-Sea Star Mandarin. The Chi Deity, Right-Side Tào Phán Quan. I bow to the Mandarins of the Southern Dipper and Northern Dipper. I bow to the Mother Goddess of the Heavens. I bow to the Council of Mandarins. I bow to the Tutelary Saint of the village and the local Tutelary Spirit. I bow to the Kitchen God, King of the Hearth. I bow to the Mandarin of the Earth, the Mandarin of the Mound. I bow to the Great Affairs Mandarin, the Long Thần and Earth Deity. In the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, ………………................... Province, …………....................................... District, ......................................................... Ward. I am ....................................... husband (wife) of ...................................... together with my family. On the ……….. day of the ………….. month, year …………… We have incense, a bowl of water, fruit, sticky rice, sweet soup, wine, and gold paper money. We respectfully present them to the Father King, the Mother Goddess, and the Council of Mandarins to bear witness to our request to sell the house at a good price — that mortal neighbors not cause trouble or complication, that the surrounding waters flow in one course, that all be at ease above and below. We pray that through the three months of summer and the nine months of winter, what we wish for be granted, what is good come and what is harmful depart, that people enjoy ease and goods abound. We ask to receive wealth, fortune, silver, money, and trading prosperity, that the household and home may always enjoy peace and good health. Namo Amitābha Buddha (3 times).
