Prayer for Welcoming the Seven House Deities (Thất Tiên)

After nhập trạch — inviting the seven deities to oversee and protect the new home

Meaning

By folk belief, every house has seven deities (Thất Tiên) overseeing the directions and locations within the home. After nhập trạch, the head of household performs the rite of inviting the Thất Tiên to take their seats and protect the home and family.

Offering preparation

A small offering tray: fruit, incense, candles, betel and areca, wine. Set at the center of the home or before the main altar.

Namo Amitābha Buddha! (3 times) We respectfully bow to the Thất Tiên — the seven deities overseeing the home. We respectfully bow to the Kitchen Gods and all the venerable deities of the household. The faithful: .......................................... New home address: .......................................... On the occasion of nhập trạch into our new home, we sincerely invite the Thất Tiên and all the venerable deities to take their seats in this new home. We respectfully ask the deities: To oversee and protect the home day and night. To bless the family with peace and freedom from illness. To keep the home secure and undisturbed. We offer modest gifts with sincere hearts; we respectfully present them. Namo Amitābha Buddha! (3 times)
