The day before the death anniversary (Tiên Thường) — offering to the Earth Deity and Kitchen Gods

Meaning

Tiên Thường is the day before the main death anniversary. The head of household must first offer to the Earth Deity to ask permission and have the deities bear witness, allowing the death anniversary offerings to be prepared.

Offering preparation

Meat offering tray with sticky rice, chicken, dishes, incense, flowers, votive paper. Offer to the Earth Deity and Kitchen Gods before offering to the ancestors.

We respectfully invite the household Earth Deity, the Kitchen Gods, the Long Mạch Deity, and all the spirit-deities to manifest in sacred power before the altar, bear witness to our sincerity, partake of these offerings, and shelter our whole family with peace, ease, and all things good. We respectfully invite the spirits, our ancestors, and the spirits of the lineage that we worship to come together and partake.
